The Essex Service Center is the state headquarters for the council and the newest of our facilities, located on the edge of Essex in the Essex Community Forest and Industrial Park. This site is very popular with troops who "camp" in the conference room on the floor, use the fireplace, central kitchen, and three bathrooms. The Essex Service Center is a great troop lodging space for girls who live outside of Chittenden County who want to come and explore the city and all it has to offer. Because of the site's access to the greater Burlington area sites and attractions, it is the perfect base camp for troops wishing to enjoy the many cultural and recrational opportunities that await them. Spend your days enjoying local museums, attractions, cultural events, and the city. Older girls might enjoy some late afternoon shopping, pizza, and an early movie before returning to Essex for the evening. The Essex Service Center also provides a terrific, home-like space for first overnights for younger local troops. The Service Center has a large carpeted floor where girls can spread out their sleeping bags. A coat room, small kitchen, three bathrooms and a single shower - all accessible to troop campers. A small play and activity field is just outside the doors, tucked into the woods. And, while the property is small, it is surrounded by a complex trail system through the forest area. The trails are blazed and provide easy hikes for beginners and good trails for beginning snow shoers during snow season. Please note: outdoor campfires are forbidden by order of the local fire authority. Because a number of staff offices and the Girl Scout Shop of Vermont are located at the Essex Service Center, you will find access limited to the troop camp areas described above. |
