Funding, Governance, and Advocacy

Funding

The Girl Scout Council of Vermont and its programs are financed by United Way allocations, program fees, grants, individual contributions, and our annual product sales. An analysis of funding, sources and expenditures is available in the Council's annual report. No fee is charged for Council membership. A $10 national membership fee goes directly to the Girl Scouts of the USA and covers activity insurance, resource development, and extensive consulting services to our council.

Governance

Council policy and governance are the responsibilities of a twenty-six member volunteer Board of Directors representing all parts of Vermont. The Council's management and program are the responsibilities of volunteers under the supervision of the Council's employed staff, which consists of the Executive Director and 20 executive and office staff.

Advocacy

As the largest organization in Vermont serving girls, the Girl Scout Council of Vermont takes in active role in advocating on issues that directly impact girls' healthy growth and development. The Girl Scout Council of Vermont has taken an active stand with regard to issues of safety, fitness and nutrition, science and technology, and community service and awareness.
