Vermont House - Hardwick Service Center

The Vermont House, located in Hardwick, VT, is one of three service centers located conveniently throughout the state. Like our Essex Service Center, Vermont House is available for Troop/Group use. This two-story house sits on 20 acres with a pond (no swimming), only three miles from Camp Wapanacki, and provides excellent camping experiences for beginners.

It is the perfect site for those who do not want a primitive camp experience. And, Vermont House provides a great base of operation for a variety of outdoor program experiences. It has access to hiking and ungroomed cross-country ski trails, meadows, and spectacular views. Girls will enjoy the short walk to a small, historic cemetery where they can learn more about the area and the people who once lived here. And, if your troop is lucky, you’ll have sister Girl Scouts from another part of the state sharing Vermont House with your group. The girls love getting to know new people and perhaps sharing a campfire or program activity.

Girls will feel at home at Vermont House because the facility feels familiar with home-style kitchens and several baths and bedrooms. The upstairs has a small sitting area, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a small kitchen, eating area and fireplace. The downstairs has a large sitting area, two bedrooms, two bathrooms, floor space for sleeping, a large kitchen and fireplace. Each has a living/dining area with wood-burning fireplaces. Both floors have shared access to picnic tables and an outdoor grill and equal access to the outdoor areas and pond. Sleeping is available on beds, couches, and on the floors. Wood is available but no kindling.

The Vermont House is our most popular site, so it is important that you register early. Troops/groups may rent one floor or two (both floors must be rented when group size exceeds 20 people). Because Vermont House is so popular, the facility will be rented to more than one troop/group at a time when possible.
